The dot SE country-code TLD was created in 1986 and delegated to Sweden. During the first years after its establishment, the registration procedure was pretty restrictive, so a very small number of domain names were ordered. Individuals could acquire solely one domain under .PP.SE (“pp” stands for “private person”). Local presence was a requirement, i.e. only Swedish individuals, companies and organizations could grab a dot SE domain. In 2003, however, the registration process was loosened considerably and, accordingly, the number of dot SE domains has been increasing each year.

At present, anybody can obtain a .SE domain name, which gives you the chance to reach the Swedish web community even if you do not have a local presence.
